The Jupiter archetype
Jupiter is the principle of expansion, growth and meaning — the reach toward more. It governs faith and philosophy, abundance and opportunity, generosity and the search for significance. Whatever Jupiter touches it enlarges, for better (growth, luck, wisdom) and sometimes for worse (excess, over-reach, complacency).
Its archetype is the sage and the benefactor: the principle that blesses, broadens and believes.
Jupiter in the birth chart
Jupiter’s sign describes how a person seeks growth and meaning; its house shows where they find opportunity, abundance and good fortune; its aspects show how easily expansion flows. As the traditional "greater benefic", Jupiter marks where life tends to open — though its gifts still ask to be used wisely.
Rulership and dignity
Jupiter rules Sagittarius, the sign of the seeker, and traditionally Pisces, where its faith turns mystical and boundless. It is exalted in Cancer, where abundance nourishes, and in detriment in Gemini and Virgo — the detail-minded signs of Mercury, where the big picture can blur.
