Virgo is the maiden, variously identified with Demeter, Astraea or the goddess of the harvest, holding an ear of wheat.
Its star Spica, the “ear of wheat,” marks giftedness and fruitful abundance; Vindemiatrix, the “grape-gatherer,” adds a cautionary note.
