What the Part of Spirit is

The Part of Spirit is the "Lot of the Sun" and the mirror image of the Part of Fortune. Where Fortune concerns the body and the involuntary flow of circumstance, Spirit concerns the soul’s conscious will — action, intention, career and the direction a person actively chooses to pursue. It is the daimon, the guiding purpose.

The two lots are computed from the same Sun–Moon arc reversed, so they are always equidistant from the Ascendant on opposite sides — a matched pair describing fate and will.

How it is calculated

The Part of Spirit reverses the Fortune formula. In a day chart it is Ascendant + Sun − Moon; in a night chart it becomes Ascendant + Moon − Sun. As with Fortune, the sect-based reversal matters for night births.
