Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 11, 2026
1. Who we are
Ocean Gull (“we”, “us”, the “Service”) is an independently operated astrology platform available at oceangull.com and app.oceangull.com. For any privacy question or request, contact support@oceangull.com.
2. Data we collect
- Account data — your name, email address, and a securely hashed password; or your Google profile (name, email, avatar) if you sign in with Google.
- Birth and event data — dates, times, and places you enter to create charts. This can be sensitive personal information; we treat it as such. It is used solely to perform astrological calculations for you and is never sold, shared for advertising, or used to profile you.
- Uploaded content — images and descriptions you attach to your events.
- Usage data — product analytics events (pages viewed, features used) and error reports, used to improve the Service.
- Technical data — session cookies and preference cookies (theme, sidebar state), plus standard server logs (IP address, browser type).
3. How we use your data
- To provide the Service: calculating charts, transits, and interpretations from the data you enter.
- To manage your account and send essential transactional email (sign-in codes, account notices).
- To send optional product email, only if you have email notifications enabled in Settings.
- To understand product usage and fix errors.
- To enforce fair-use limits and keep the Service secure.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
Our legal bases under the GDPR: performance of our contract with you (providing the Service and your account); our legitimate interests (keeping the Service secure and reliable, preventing abuse, monitoring errors); your consent (optional analytics cookies and optional product email — withdrawable at any time); and legal obligations (such as keeping billing records).
4. Processors we rely on
We use a small set of infrastructure providers, each processing data only on our instructions:
- Vercel — application hosting and performance analytics
- Neon — database hosting
- Cloudflare — uploaded file storage
- Resend — transactional email delivery
- Google — sign-in (OAuth), place search, and timezone lookup when you pick a location
- Sentry — error monitoring
- PostHog (EU region) — product analytics
- Upstash — usage counters and rate limiting
If you purchase a subscription, payment is handled by our merchant of record, which processes your payment details under its own privacy policy — we never see or store your card details.
Some of these providers process data in the United States or other countries outside the European Economic Area. Where they do, the transfer is protected by recognized safeguards such as the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework or Standard Contractual Clauses.
5. Cookies
We use essential cookies for your sign-in session, and preference cookies for things like theme and layout. Optional analytics cookies (PostHog) are set only after you accept them in the cookie banner — you can decline and keep using everything.
6. Retention and deletion
Your data stays for as long as you keep your account. You can delete your account at any time in Settings — this removes your events, charts, uploads, and profile. If you change your mind, contact support@oceangull.com within 30 days of deletion. Residual copies in encrypted backups expire on a rolling schedule.
7. Security
We are committed to protecting your data and use appropriate technical and organizational measures to keep it safe. However, no system is ever completely secure.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live (including under the GDPR), you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to certain processing. Most of this you can do directly in the app; for anything else, email support@oceangull.com and we will respond within 30 days.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
9. Children
The Service is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
10. Changes
If we make material changes to this policy, we will update this page and note the new date above. Significant changes will be announced in the app or by email.
